Book Review by Mrs. Burnham: I have to admit that The Help is now one of my top ten favorite books of all time. The story takes place in the Jackson, Mississippi in the 1950s during the time of segregation and discrimination, and it revolves around the lives of black women who are working as hired help for the rich, white women in town. There is one white woman in the story, however, named Skeeter, who sympathizes with these black women, and she decides to write a book illustrating the despicable and disrespectful treatment these black women face from their employers. Full of conflict and controversy, characters you love and those you love to hate, The Help is a book that will forever change the way you see black and white.
