Book Review by Mrs. Burnham: If you're looking for a book that is short and quick to read yet has a powerful story, this is the book for you! The story is told by Lakshmi, a 13-year-old girl from Nepal whose family needs her to work after monsoons ruin the family's crops. Lakshmi thinks she will be working as a maid, but really she has been sold into the life of a prostitute. The book is written in short "poem" format, meaning each short section is another part of the story. Beautifully written in a way that will stay with you for a long time, Sold is the courageous story of a girl in a terrible situation.
